Best Garden Furniture Options for Small Gardens
There are many garden furniture options for small gardens, but it is important to choose carefully. If you buy too small, your furniture will look lost, but if you buy too large, it will take over the garden. For small gardens, storage space for furniture over the winter is often limited, so it’s important to choose maintenance-free furniture that can be left outside all year.
Hardwood and rattan furniture must be stored indoors during winter, so avoiding these materials is best. Aluminium furniture is an excellent choice as it is weather-resistant and can remain outdoors year-round without fear of deterioration.
When choosing your patio set, consider chairs that either fold or stack to save space. Also, think about the total floor area required for your patio set. As a rule of thumb, add 1 metre to the dimensions of the table to allow chairs to be positioned comfortably. For example, if you’re purchasing a round table with a 1-metre diameter, the recommended floor area would be 2 metres. Folding tables are another great option, as they free up space when not in use.
Bistro sets are very popular in small gardens. They typically include a table and two chairs, although four-seater options are available. Bistro sets are ideal for a quick coffee or as a dining set for a couple or small family. Their lightweight design makes them easy to reposition around the garden.
Garden benches are another excellent choice for small gardens. They are compact and can be placed against a wall, taking up minimal space. Add a small coffee table, and you have everything you need for a cozy setup.
Think carefully about cushions if storage is limited. While they add comfort, they need to be stored when not in use. In many cases, your furniture may be comfortable enough without them.
Parasols should be in proportion to the size of your furniture. For smaller sets, opt for a parasol with a maximum canopy size of 2 metres. If storage for your parasol is an issue, consider purchasing a weatherproof PE sleeve to protect the canopy when closed. With the sleeve in place, the parasol can remain outside year-round.
